We recently caught up with Omar Al-Massalkhi, the Co-Founder and CEO of Talkin’ Tacos. We’re sharing what we learned from our conversation below.
What inspired you to start Talkin’ Tacos?
Talkin’ Tacos began as a passion project between my childhood best friend and me—a way to earn extra income when we were both struggling financially.
As teenagers, we often dreamed of starting a business together, though we never imagined it would become a reality.
With limited resources but a shared vision, we took a leap of faith, determined to build something meaningful. What started as a simple side hustle quickly evolved into something much bigger. It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come, transforming Talkin’ Tacos from a small idea into a thriving business.
What has been one of your most memorable customer experiences?
One of our most memorable customer experiences happened early on, shortly after we opened.
A man and his partner came in, and after trying our tacos, he walked up to me with a huge smile. He said, “I’ve lived in Mexico my whole life, and I’ve never had tacos this good outside of there.” His words meant the world to me. Then, unexpectedly, he handed me a $100 tip.
I was stunned. It was a genuine, unforgettable moment that reinforced why we started Talkin’ Tacos in the first place.
That kind of recognition, especially from someone with such deep experience, reminded us that we were creating something truly special.
What advice would you give to someone looking for the perfect taco experience?
The key to the perfect taco experience is simplicity and authenticity. It’s not about being fancy—it’s about fresh ingredients and a well-crafted tortilla that holds everything together.
Take your time, savor each bite, and appreciate the balance of flavors and textures.
Sometimes, the best taco experience comes from embracing the little details. Be open to new flavors, and let the taco speak for itself—you’ll know when it’s the right one.
Do you have any exciting plans for the future of Talkin’ Tacos?
Absolutely! We’ve got some exciting things in the works for the future of Talkin’ Tacos. We’re planning to expand, not just in terms of locations, but also in offering new and creative menu items that push the boundaries of what people expect from tacos.
We want to keep surprising our customers and giving them something fresh and exciting every time they walk through the door. We’re also looking to build stronger connections with the communities. It’s all about growing, keeping things fun, and sharing our love for tacos with more people!
